The Croatian government on Thursday took note of the final draft of Croatia's Treaty of Accession to the European Union, and the document is to be approved by the European Parliament later in the day.
The European Parliament will give its consent for Croatia's accession treaty today. This is a historic day which we have been waiting for for a long time and for which we have worked painstakingly, Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor said at the government's meeting in Zagreb.
Thanking her cabinet members and all who worked on the accomplishment of that goal, which she described as a historic success, Kosor said the most important achievement of the government at whose helm she has been since July 2009 was the lifting of the blockade on Croatia's European Union membership talks and the opening and closing of the most difficult negotiating areas.
"Sometimes we are not happy that many are ignoring that fact, but it will be written in history," Kosor said.
She recalled that the finalisation of Croatia's EU entry talks happened in the year when Croatia was celebrating the 20th anniversary of independence.
Kosor said she would proudly sign the accession treaty in Brussels next week.
